headcanon. mary jane has never fully recovered over the loss of her mother at such a young age, and has never sought closure. she remembers madeline watson with as much resentment as she does reverence, in which there are two polar figures that she considers her mother. madeline passed on her love for theatre and musicals to mj, and while mj likes to think of her mother as both glamorous and independent, the reality was much more hardening. while madeline did what she could to protect her daughters from the brunt of philip’s anger, she always left them with him. now that she’s older and understands basic medical treatments, mj will never forgive her her mother for never even considering undergoing chemo. madeline knew she was dying and was ready, selfish and weak in the eyes of her youngest daughter.
